ISI's Advanced Systems group explores technologies in which systems are vital to computing breakthroughs. These include:
- Biomimetic systems and Systems-on-a-Chip: the application of methods and systems found in nature to engineering and technology and systems-on-a-chip such as the MONARCH supercomputer on a chip
- Scientific Workflows: systems for workflow planning, such as the Pegasus framework for mapping complex scientific workflows on the Grid
- Micro Satellites: Satellites in which each satellite is, in fact, a system comprised of other systems
- Information processing systems for intelligence: Strategies and capabilities for multi-intelligence and information operations.
Advanced Systems is led by John Granacki, Ph.D.
