Advanced Systems explores defining-edge computing approaches, including adaptive computing systems, distributed systems, and grid and high-performance computing.

Dynamic Systems applies novel computing architectures and devices -- including tiled multi-core architectures, distributed sensor and reconfigurable networks, and processor-in-memory systems -- to real-time signal processing domains, primarily for federal customers.

Intelligent Systems delves into theoretical and practical aspects of digital government; information agents, systems and integration; knowledge representation, reasoning and capture; interactive education and training; semantic web languages; and adaptive robots.

Medical Information Systems explores the intersection of healthcare and informatics to help transform healthcare discovery, practice and delivery, including Grid computing, information security, service-oriented architectures, and imaging and medical informatics.

Silicon Systems operates the MOSIS integrated circuit (IC) fabrication serice, which pools designs from multiple users to create prototype for relatively low or no cost. Research includes VLSI and MEMS design, analysis and fabrication tools and approaches.
