ISI aims to create breakthrough technologies that enable groups of people, software and hardware to analyze situations jointly and take coordinated action. Our efforts include networks, shared-resource grids, security technologies, and tools and environments that directly support their users-- in situations that involve considerable scale, complexity, unreliability and uncertainty.

Research focuses on:

  • Networking principles, architectures and protocols
  • Grid and distributed workflow
  • Information security strategies, technologies and infrastructure
  • Large-scale simulation and information environments
  • Advanced resource management and decision support

Among our current projects:

  • Grid computing:  Southern California Earthquake Center research coalition
  • Testbeds:  DETER experimental cyber-security testing network
  • Large-scale simulations:  Joint Experimentation on Scalable Parallel Processors for Joint Forces Command; Risk Analysis Workbench integrated analysis environment
  • Sensor networking:  ISI Laboratory for Embedded Networked Sensor Experimentation satellite, ecological, undersea seismic and other networks
