Research Overview

Distributed Scalable Systems approaches complex, large-scale choices in uncertain environments as continuous feedback loops of:

  • Technology:   n-dimensional information management  ■  Advanced resource management  ■  Human systems  ■  Systems science
  • Collaborative e-functions:  Understanding and assessing situations  ■  Developing options  ■  Making decisions  ■  Taking action  ■  Adopting flexible, maintainable systems
  • Group characteristics:  The extent to which members look toward shared goals    Whether groups are formal or informal    Other tangible and intangible factors

Our work focuses on providing aids and tools for:

  • Mid-size and large corporations:  logistics, supply chain management, knowledge capture and management; intelligent project management; data analysis, visualization and simulation.
  • Military command and control:  integrated situation awareness and planning, operational risk management, and coordinated operations and logistics.
  • U.S. intelligence agencies:  asset allocation and coordination, operations planning, collaborative knowledge management, indicator processes, adversary modeling, data analysis and visualization, and petabyte distributed data management.
  • Public health agencies and disaster care providers:  risk analysis, community-specific best practices, coordinated response training, rehearsal and review.
