ISI operates one of the world’s largest and most respected artificial intelligence groups. We explore disciplines vital to learning and knowledge – natural language, education and information integration – with broad societal and technological implications.
Efforts range from highly individual, like easing foreign language learning and personalizing kindergarten-through-12th-grade education, to such broad applications as supporting large-scale science and high-end computing. Intelligent Systems also includes adaptive robotics, virtual humans, “serious games” and other leading-edge technologies.
Research focuses on:
- Natural language
- Knowledge representation and acquisition
- Scalable data mining and integration
- Virtual humans
- Robotics
- Novel learning architectures
- Cognitive development and education
Among our current projects:
- Robotics: SuperBot modular, self-reconfiguring robots for search-and-recovery, space exploration and other tasks
