Social Media Coordinator - USC Student Worker Position

USC’s Information Sciences Institute (ISI), a unit of the university’s Viterbi School of Engineering, is a world leader in the research and development of advanced artificial intelligence, information processing, computing, cybersecurity, and communications technologies. ISI’s 325 faculty, professional staff and graduate students carry out extraordinary information sciences research at three distinct locations - Marina Del Rey, CA; Arlington, VA; and Waltham, MA.

*This position is located in Marina del Rey, CA or can be remote.

ISI is seeking a part-time (up to 20 hours/week) Social Media Coordinator to manage ISI-wide social media channels. In partnership with Communications and Human Resources, the position will set and implement our Social Media strategy with the goal of increasing awareness of the research being conducted at ISI. Increased awareness will drive our marketing efforts as well as our ability to successfully recruit staff and graduate students.


  • Develop digital/social media strategies for upcoming event campaigns and USC ISI staff/student recruitment efforts
  • Communicate the importance of our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs/initiatives internally and externally
  • Create content (e.g., video, gifs, photos, copy, etc.) for social media platforms
  • Monitor analytics across platforms to report on the effectiveness of campaigns
  • Work across divisions at USC ISI to promote help promote ISI events and activities online
  • Coordinate with Public Communications Specialist on messaging, and curate the online brand for USC ISI
  • Develop and run paid advertisements online to engage audiences
  • Monitor, moderate, and respond to audience comments/questions
  • Keep up to date with latest digital marketing trends and opportunities
  • Assist with other marketing duties as needed


  • Strong literacy in social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube)
  • Experience in planning, strategizing, and executing marketing campaigns, especially digitally
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills
  • Ability to define and create content for specific target audiences
  • Strong understanding of brand identity and reputation


  • Experience with web/social media copywriting
  • Knowledge of content management tools (e.g., Buffer, Hootsuite, PostPlanner, etc.)
  • Graphic design skills/experience are a plus (i.e., experience with design tools like HTML and Adobe Creative Suite)
  • Experience with/knowledge of Google Analytics is a plus

Minimum Education & Experience

  • Background in social media management, public relations, marketing, content development, project management
  • 1-3 years of social media management experience or B.A. in Journalism, Communications, Marketing or similar program
